How long can I expect the technology to last? Would the electrical components overheat or fail over time?

David,

I'm afraid I cannot provide a definitive answer to this question, simply because I have never seen any testing done on such systems. However, I will say that the life expectancy should be 25 years or potentially much longer, since passive RFID systems lack moving parts that can wear out or break down. Solutions that have been put in place for ski lifts and transportation 20 years ago are still functioning to this day, for the most part, without any issues. It is possible for electrical components to overheat or fail over time, yes—but in my experience, this is rare.
