What is considered the number-one solution?

That is a bit like asking what the best car is. It depends on your needs. If you are a 50-year-old guy with grey hair (or no hair) and have grown somewhat soft in the middle, like me, then clearly the best car is a Jaguar F-TYPE S Coupe, preferably with a manual transmission, 19-inch black Centrifuge wheels and Performance seats. But if you are a 35-year-old guy with four kids between the ages of one and six, a minivan would be a much better choice.

Similarly, if you want to tag small objects on a shelf, passive high-frequency (HF) or ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) RFID would be a good option. If you want to track a large piece of equipment in a manufacturing plant the size of eight football fields, however, an active RFID system would be better.
