We are making a race-timing application and are finding it difficult to figure out what antenna to use to make a mat over which runners can move to be sensed. Can you recommend an antenna that is long and thin and can be placed under a mat?

The type of antenna you would need is dictated by the types of tags you are using. If you are employing passive high-frequency (HF) tags, then you will need an HF reader and antenna. If you are utilizing passive ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) transponders, then you will need a passive UHF reader and antenna.
For a passive UHF race-timing antenna, you should contact Times-7, which offers the SlimLine RTAS UHF RFID Race Timing Antenna System. Most passive HF antennas are sold as part of a complete race-timing solution.
If any of our readers are aware of where someone can purchase just a passive HF antenna for use under a mat, they are invited to post information below.
