Does such a technology exist

The Dash7 Alliance claims that tags based on the Dash7 specification can be read at a distance of 1 kilometer (0.6 mile), but I have never spoken to any user of radio frequency technology who was able to read tags from that far away. You could use repeaters to extend the range of an RFID system—but keep in mind that a longer read range is not always preferable. Sometimes, you just want to know that a tagged object or vehicle is in a specific zone or within, say, 100 feet of an exit.
