Ask The ExpertsIs It Possible for an RFID Reader to Interrogate 10 Tags at Once?
RFID Journal Staff asked 10 years ago

By "at once," I mean that the tags would be within 1 to 2 meters of the reader, and would need to be interrogated within half a second. If this is feasible, where can I find such a system, and what would be the cost?

You most certainly can. Any passive ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) reader can interrogate 10 tags within 2 meters in less than half a second. You could read 50 tags, in fact. The cost would depend on the type of passive UHF reader you purchased. If you bought a fixed reader with multiple ports for multiple antennas, it would likely run you about $2,000 with antennas and cables, while a handheld would likely cost around $3,000. If you have a fairly small read field, you could purchase a reader with an integrated antenna. These typically go for about $1,000 apiece.
