Would it be possible to utilize only two antennas?

To answer your question, I reached out to Sanjiv Dua, the CEO of RFID4U, a leading training and consulting firm. Sanjiv says that you can connect as many antennas as you want, up to the maximum supported by your reader (some readers have two ports, some four and some eight). However, he cautions, you would need to ensure that unused ports were properly capped with 50 ohm RF load terminators, if they are not internally terminated by the manufacturer. If you do not cap each unused antenna port, he says, "It will fry." Pastermack sells 50 Ohn RF load terminations.
