What is involved in utilizing such a device?

The first passive ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) RFID reader in a USB stick came out in 2008 (see ‘USB Stick’ RFID Reader Debuts). With a stick reader, you must bring a tagged object to the device in order to encode the tag (if it isn’t pre-encoded) and to read that tag. The stick should come with a software application enabling you to interrogate the tag, see the serial number and associate that number with the tagged item.
