What types of companies would you recommend I look into?

Arlene,

This is a great question, but it is a complicated one to answer. Generally speaking, I suggest that companies looking to deploy an RFID solution find a systems integrator that can help them evaluate current business processes, design a solution, choose the best-of-breed tag, reader and software, and then deploy a solution.

Finding a great systems integrator isn't always easy. I recommend that you look for an integrator with a track record of deploying solutions in your specific industry. That way, they will have an understanding of your business and business processes. It's not always easy to check references, because competitors might not want to recommend the integrator they used. But you should ask around in the industry. The tag and reader vendors usually know which integrators are good. You can also search the RFID Journal website to find out if the company name comes up in a number of stories.

Some hardware and software companies offer systems integration services. This can be an option if you've decided to use their hardware or software. But, again, I would ask around and be sure that they have a track record of successful deployments.
