Typically, companies do not track pallets; more often, they track the goods on each pallet. CHEP had developed a solution for tracking pallets and associating the cases on those pallets with an RFID tag’s unique identifier, but the system never caught on (see Pallet Tracking Goes High Tech). More recently iGPS tried to do something similar, but that system failed to catch on as well (see IGPS Rolls Out RFID-Enabled Plastic Pallets).
It is possible to tag and track pallets, but I am unsure such a system would be cost-effective, which is probably why no one is doing it.
