How would I assign a specific RFID number to a single metal item using a portable Motorola reader?

Mario,
Motorola sold its RFID business to Zebra Technologies in 2014 (see Zebra Buys Motorola Solutions' Enterprise Business), so you could contact Zebra. Typically, an application that runs on a handheld reader lets you scan an item's barcode and then write that barcode identifier, along with a serial number, to an RFID transponder. You would need to associate the serial number with that particular item in a database so that when the tag was read, you would know what the number identified.
