If I wanted to track how many cows moved through a gate, how could I relay that information to a server? Would I need to use Wi-Fi?

Nicholas,
There are three ways in which readers pass data to a server. One, obviously, is via an Ethernet cable. Another is wirelessly through Wi-Fi. There are some readers that can also send data over a cellular network. These are less common, so you would need to be sure that the reader you buy offers this option, if cellular connectivity is what you require.
