Do they pose an issue for humans? I ask because I read that NFL players will be wearing battery-powered RFID tags during the Super Bowl.

Frank,
Active RFID transponders, such as the ones worn by National Football League (NFL) players, emit much less energy than a cell phone. The signal does not need to travel very far to reach the receivers set up throughout the stadium, so there is no risk to human health.
