There are two cat doors in my new house with covers on them. I have to lift the covers to let cats in and out, or I can leave them off and risk having unwanted guests. I looked into RFID cat doors, but they're expensive. Is it possible to add chips to the existing doors? Thanks!

Dear Joni,
The chip is usually placed in the animal, not the door, though it can also be put on a collar, if you prefer not to embed one in your animal. The door would contain a small reader module that would unlock the door flap each time your cat approached, but would keep it locked for other un-tagged animals. If you are handy, you could possibly purchase a reader module online and set it up so that a tag on or in your cat would unlock the door. Here is a video showing how to do it. Good luck!
