Can you please offer a suggestion for a type of project to undertake?

One simple project might be to apply Near Field Communication (NFC) tags to directional signs at a park, university, hospital or other facility (with permission, of course). You could create a simple Android application that would launch a Web browser when a person with an NFC-enabled phone read the tag. You could then use Google Maps to provide location information and allow him or her to enter a destination and receive directions to the intended destination.
