Is there a cheap RFID tag option that I could use to monitor the tires? And how much would it cost?

There are several low-cost passive Electronic Product Code (EPC) tags that you might be able to utilize for this purpose. But from what I understand, a standard label will not adhere well to a rubber tire, so the cheapest labels on the market might fall off.

It may be possible to have a vendor employ adhesive to apply bar-coded labels on new tires. Or you might be able to purchase dry inlays (essentially, the transponder without the label) and use your own adhesive to apply them. This assumes that you don't also need to have a bar-coded label with the RFID transponder.

How much can you expect to pay for a dry inlay? I would estimate that this would cost you 7 to 10 cents in volumes of 1 million or more.
