Ask The ExpertsHow Can I Simply Read a Wiegand 26-Bit Tag?
RFID Journal Staff asked 7 years ago

I need a reader that can transmit a tag's code so that we can identify it. This tag cannot be read by our WAVE ID pcProx Plus 13.56 MHz reader. Any suggestions?

Eric,

Wiegand is the standard for connecting a passive RFID reader to a door-locking mechanism. It is not an air-interface protocol. Many companies adapted the Wiegand standard to overcome its limitations, so the tags you are using could employ any number of different air-interface protocols. You would need to contact the manufacturer of the specific tags you are utilizing in order to find out what reader would be able to interrogate them.
