Passive UHF RFID systems emit a low level of RF energy. Studies have shown there is very little effect on the human body, unless you were to sit in front of a reader emitting energy all day (see Can RFID Be Harmful to the Human Body?). It's recommended that employees working around RFID antennas stay at least 10 feet from the antennas. The HF systems used in most libraries are short-range and unlikely to reach most employees.
