There are RFID sensor networks in which each node in an ad hoc mesh network has a sensor and can transmit data to another node, and then another, until it reaches a base station. But to my knowledge, there is no tag that can act as a reader. That is, there is no active RFID tag that can read passive tags or other active tags.
