We receive 40,000 each of two identical barcoded serialized parts, which are packed like eggs in a box. Half are type A, the other half type B. Each must be hand-scanned at receipt, and each time it's handled, it must be traced through four separate process steps. Could an RFID solution eliminate the many thousands of scans involved?

Roy,

The answer is likely "yes," but it would depend on a variety of factors. If the items were composed of metal and densely packed, it is possible that the signals would not reach all of the tagged items, and you thus might not achieve 100 percent read rates. There are usually ways to tag items to ensure near-perfect accuracy. A skilled RFID systems integrator should be able to design a system in such a way that all items would be read at each point at which you needed to capture data. If you could provide pictures or a little more detail, I would be happy to offer you some suggestions on how the system might be designed, or to recommend some systems integrators that might be able to assist you.
