How can we track the locations of moving carts on a golf course? Our carts remain on the track, which measures 490 meters (1,607 feet). We need to know its location within a range of 40 meters (131 feet), and we want to stop the cart if it moves out of a certain area Should we use passive RFID or an RTLS with Wi-Fi tags?

Mohsin,

To cover the area you wish to cover, you would likely require an active RFID system to be able to read the tags constantly. A real-time location system (RTLS) using tags that communicate with Wi-Fi could work, but you might face less interference from rain if you opted for a solution employing 433 MHz active tags. The lower frequency might perform better in bad weather since less RF would be absorbed by the water at lower frequencies. A good systems integrator could look at your actual physical layout and determine the best approach and type of RFID for your needs. If you require any assistance with finding one, I can make a few recommendations.
