If so, are there any products on the market that are designed for home use?

There are a few products on the market—primarily Bluetooth beacons that function like active RFID tags—designed for use in the home. The Tile is probably the best known. It can be put on your keychain, for example, to help you find your keys. Passive RFID systems that employ Near Field Communication (NFC) are also designed for consumer use. The most common application is pairing Bluetooth devices. The NFC reader in your smartphone would read a passive NFC tag in a wireless speaker, for example, and pair your phone with it so you could stream songs via Bluetooth. There have been attempts to build consumer products by which you could place passive tags on objects to track them within your home, but these have not yet caught on.
