I am unsure whether you want to track drones with an RFID transponder or interrogate tags with a reader on the drones. Either way, the answer is yes.
A few years ago, a company called Q Track put a transponder on a drone and flew it around the exhibit hall at our RFID Journal LIVE! conference. The company showed how it could track the drone's location on a computer or tablet screen as it moved. An ultra-wideband (UWB) active RFID system could also track the drone's location accurately.
We have also published a few articles about companies that have mounted a passive ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) RFID reader under the drone to locate tagged objects.
