We are planning to develop an application for high-frequency (HF) readers in Java, as it is free. But I find that readers, in general, have sample code that needs Visual Studio, which is not free. Can we still create apps in Java?

To answer your question, I reached out to Sanjiv Dua, the president of RFID4U, a training company and systems integrator. Sanjiv says most HF and ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) reader manufacturers do provide software development kits (SDKs) for both .NET (with sample code in VB or C#) and Java. "You can check with the manufacturer on the availability of a Java SDK," he says.
