Are there any existing tags that can be used on metal and withstand temperatures of up to 160 degrees Celsius (320 degrees Fahrenheit) for up to 30 days?

To answer this question, I turned to Patrick King, the founder of Technologies ROI and an expert on tags that can withstand high temperatures and harsh environments. Pat responds: "The majority of TROI tags are use-tested 30 days at 400 [degrees] F (204 [degrees] C). General deterioration can occur to the packaging of the tag, but the core RFID tags function fine. Depending on the packaging selected, other attributes or benefits can be realized, such as Teflon coating for corrosive chemicals, or special shielding for direct flame exposure or metal encapsulation for paint resistance, or molding into compression rubbers for impact resistance."

Pat explains that TROI technology mimics military specifications or consumer products standards, in which the chips are case-hardened in special secondary packaging and then surface-mounted on circuit boards with solder-bonded antenna attachment. "This allows TROI to offer tags specified for normal use at 300 [degrees] C and above," he says. "And we have tags that operate normally at 350 [degrees] F, which is unprecedented."
