Would there be issues with interference?

We have not written about the use of passive high-frequency (HF) or ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) radio frequency identification systems in electric substations, so I don't have any hard evidence about whether or not there would be interference. I expect that there would be some with passive UHF systems, though how extensive it would be is difficult to say. In any case, I don't think that the interference would render tags unreadable—it would more likely just reduce the read range. I would recommend performing some testing with the RFID solution you are considering deploying, in order to determine how much any potential inference would limit the system's effectiveness.
