That is an interesting question. You cannot put an ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) tag in material to protect it from microwaves and still expect it to be read, as the material would block energy from reaching the tag. I reached out to a couple of people who I thought might know if high-frequency (HF) or low-frequency (LF) tags could be read from within material protecting against microwaves, since these types of tags do not use microwaves to transmit data. Unfortunately, no one could answer the question definitively. Most felt the HF and LF tags could not be interrogated from within the material, but said it would require testing to know for sure.
