Is there a small, simple RFID system available by which I could easily (e.g. with a slider) change a device's reading range to between 10 and 30 centimeters?

Büscher,

I am unaware of any reader with this feature. You typically can attenuate a reader's signal in the reader-management software that comes with the device, but reducing the antenna gain does not correlate to a precise measurement. You can reduce the gain by 50 percent, which will reduce the read range by roughly half, but there are no slider settings that would allow you to read tags from a distance of 30 or 15 centimeters.
