Ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) readers send RF energy to a reader port. The antenna directs the energy either in a narrow linear beam or in a spiral pattern. Unless a reader manufacturer specifically recommends a certain type of reader antenna, the device can handle either circular or linear polarization.
