EPC Connection 2007 Report

Earlier this month, more than 1,000 professionals gathered in Chicago to attend the fourth annual EPC Connection conference and exhibition. View the presentations from the event.
Oct 29, 2007—A great deal of progress has been made regarding Electronic Product Code (EPC) standards over the past year, and an increasing number of end users are going live with applications that are delivering value to their operations. Meanwhile, a great deal of hype and misinformation about RFID and EPC technologies has been disseminated, with some claiming RFID technologies deliver no real benefits.

To that end, EPC Connection 2007, the fourth annual conference and exhibition from EPCglobal North America, provided a number of early-adopter case studies designed to show how companies can overcome the challenges of implementing EPC technologies to achieve value for their businesses. Presentations from those early adopters are now available (see final page for downloading instructions).

The conference was held Oct. 2-4 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Chicago. This followed the success of RFID Journal LIVE! 2007, held in April in Orlando, and the 2007 RFID Journal—AAFA Apparel and Footwear Summit, which took place in New York City this past August.

On Track With RFID
More than 1,000 retailers, distributors, manufacturers and other professionals attended this year's conference, including many end users and potential end users of RFID/EPC technology. Several early adopters presented their findings so others could learn from their experiences using the technologies in their operations. Those attending the presentations learned how to improve promotions execution and shipping accuracy, reduce out-of-stocks and chargebacks, track high-value assets, create electronic proof of delivery, track work-in-process, enhance regulatory compliance, improve warehouse operations, boost supply-chain efficiencies, fight counterfeiting and create e-pedigrees.

The conference opened with CompTIA's RFID+ Certification Training, a fast-track preparation course providing one day of intensive instructor-led training using state-of-the-art RFID equipment. Attendees received a CD-ROM containing a number of RFID+ practice tests to prepare for the RFID+ Certification Exam, which they could then take either at the conference or at a later date.
