Pramari Releases Rifidi 1.0--RFID’s Next-Generation Open-Source Development Software

By Andrew Price
Apr 04, 2007—Orlando, FL—April 1, 2007— Pramari, a world leader in Open Source RFID software, today announced the public release of its RFID Development Environment - Rifidi. The product is available on www.rifidi.org or on Sourceforge sourceforge.net/projects/rifidi/).

Using advanced hardware virtualization, Pramari’s Open Source product Rifidi implements a Reader Simulation Tool, enhancing and maximizing ROI for RFID Enterprise Software Development.

“Rifidi is changing the RFID development tools landscape. This is the first tool truly helping the developer to increase efficiencies and strengthen system reliability. It will accelerate the adoption and development of RFID in many industries,” said Prasith Govin, Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of Pramari. Demonstrating its commitment to the RFID development community, Pramari releases its Rifidi product line as Open Source.

Product Details

Rifidi’s initial functionality includes important features aimed at enabling and empowering the RFID software developer and QA test engineer:
• Advanced emulator that allows real-world level interactions using software-based readers.
• Ability to simulate RFID tag events and behavior.
• Functions exactly as an RFID reader device, even down to the protocol level (TCP/Serial/other).
• Enables storing and replaying simple test scenarios.
• Eclipse-based architecture for easy integration into an existing development environment.

Benefits for RFID Software Development

Rifidi’s is the first tool to address the needs of RFID development. Until now RFID developers had no tools or direction on how to create an application. Its impact on RFID projects can be tremendous:
• Rifidi emulates different readers. Developers can switch between the different hardware choices without purchasing any hardware, saving cost and increasing business agility.
• The developer does not have to learn the intricacies of specific RFID hardware vendors and their readers. Developers can focus on software vs. hardware, increasing their efficiency and flexibility.
• Rifidi enables software driven, repeatable and accurate replication of test cases. Test cases can be replicated from one developer to another, multiple times, eliminating test ambiguity. Manual test procedures are replaced by deterministic techniques, saving effort and cost.
