In the medical field, radio frequency identification is a valuable tool for improving asset-utilization rates and patient outcomes, reducing the incidence of lost or stolen equipment, decreasing the amount of time that nurses spend searching for missing items, and other applications. With that in mind, RFID Journal hosted its 10th RFID in Health Care conference and exhibition on Nov. 20, 2014, at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, in Chicago, Ill. This year's event was designed to help hospital and clinic executives who are considering RFID deployments to make the best implementation decisions for their facilities.

The conference featured leading hospital executives explaining how they use RFID to improve asset-utilization rates, reduce expenses and boost patient outcomes, and provided a unique learning experience for health-care executives (see Industry Leaders to Present New Case Studies at RFID in Health Care 2014). Early adopters shared the results of real-world deployments, answered questions regarding the benefits they have achieved with RFID, and offered insights into the proper RFID technologies to employ for various applications, as well as how to avoid common pitfalls. One hundred twenty-five attendees took part in the event.

The conference sessions covered a wide variety of applications relevant to health-care organizations, including asset tracking, inventory management, patient monitoring, reducing the leaving behind of objects, enhancing patient safety, managing supply chains and more. Participating exhibitors displayed health-care solutions covering a range of RFID technologies, including passive ultrahigh-frequency (UHF), passive high-frequency (HF), ultra-wideband (UWB), 802.11x, active UHF, ZigBee and hybrid tags.

Recordings of the event's speaker presentations are now available in RFID Journal's online video library. Links to videos of the sessions are provided on the following pages, along with PDFs of the slides used in those presentations (not all speakers have granted permission to have their presentations and/or slides archived).
