Emerald’s RFID Journal Welcomes New Managing Editor to Elevate Content Strategy

RFID Journal is pleased to announce the hiring of James Hickey as the new managing editor at the technology brand owned and operated by Emerald, the nation’s leading tradeshow company. 

William Gannon, SVP and Editor-in-Chief of Emerald, notes that Hickey brings 30 years of journalism and editorial management experience including stops with business-to-business magazines, sports and covering local and national political news.  

“James brings a fresh perspective and a very practical understanding of the transformative potential of RFID technology,” said Gannon. “In addition to leading the editorial direction and operations at RFIDJournal.com, James will also collaborate closely with his colleagues on RFIDLive events.” 

Prior to joining RFID Journal, Hickey founded North-Jersey News.com where he was editor-in-chief for the independent online publication that covered both state and national politics for the residents of Northern New Jersey. He previously also served in the business-to-business space, as managing editor of The Food Institute. During his time there, he reported and edited stories that covered the business side of the food industry, from farm to fork.

Hickey said he is eager to work with the RFIDJournal.com, RFID Journal Live and Emerald teams, especially Claire Swedberg, as well as experts in the industry to inform the loyal readers of RFID Journal. 

“The future for RFID products and the industries they contribute to—the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence—is here. Today it is already serving  markets not imagined not even six months ago,” said Hickey. “I want the site to focus on how the data that is now in our hands is used. I am here to tell those stories as well as the those that are the lifeblood of RFID—the new products that make it all possible.”
