Blended Reality Is RFID—Immersion at the Item Level

Hewlett-Packard is leading the development of new computational capabilities to create mixed-reality environments (blended reality), with the goal of merging the physical and digital worlds to create new and better experiences for people in the home environment, at work and in movement. The new HP Sprout is a good example of a PC architecture that integrates multiple technologies to provide a single immersive experience for individuals. RFID and NFC technologies are key to tracking items and providing more information about physical objects in the digital world. HP is looking for ways to take another step forward to bring blended reality to the item level via RFID and NFC.

The Interoperability of RFID Technology With Industry 4.0: Integrating RFID With 3D Printing

Although 3D printing offers advantages over traditional manufacturing systems for identification purposes, the components manufactured in different processes behave identically. The difference lies in the possibility of implanting an RFID tag during a component’s additive manufacturing process. Consequently, 3D printers for ABS and PLA can print small batches of complex components with embedded permanent identification. Learn how the concept of Industry 4.0 greatly expands a company’s ability to customize in large quantities, thereby enabling it to meet different markets flexibly.

RFID: Getting Maximum Value from a Disruptive Technology

Amazon.com was founded in 1994, in the very early days of the World Wide Web. Since then, the company has had a major impact on the global retail landscape, paving the way for other online retailers and disrupting the business models of conventional “brick-and-mortar” retailers. Radio frequency identification gives companies with brick-and-mortar stores a chance to use technology to disrupt online retailers, by providing them with the inventory visibility necessary to become true omni-channel retailers, and to use stores as warehouses for same-day deliveries. But this can only be achieved if companies are using RFID for what it truly is—a disruptive technology. Learn how RFID should be properly viewed and deployed.
