How Many RFID Tags Are Produced Annually?

Posted By RFID Journal, 03.20.2009
Is there an association or industry group that systematically gathers data with regard to total RFID tag production in all industries within the United States? Ideally, I would like to see the total production/distribution of RFID tags by year since such records were first gathered.

I am also looking for such data for the UPC bar code. Steven Brown presents such a tabulation in his book, Revolution at the Checkout Counter, but it ends in 1998. Where might one find the missing data for the remaining years?

Do you have any suggestions where to look?

I have not seen any such data regarding RFID tags. ABI Research and VDC Research Group estimate market size, but I don't know if they break down the number of tags sold on a year-by-year basis.

Perhaps our readers are aware of where to find this data. Anyone?
