With that in mind, RFID Journal hosted a virtual event yesterday titled "RFID in Harsh Environments." This online event, sponsored by HID Global, explained how the technology can be used for tracking assets, monitoring personnel safety and equipment maintenance, and speeding up production and shipping processes in harsh and complex environments.

Choosing the Right RFID Technology for Manufacturing and Harsh Environments
Many companies claim their tags are suitable for harsh environments, but as different as tags are, so are the definitions of "harsh" for various use cases. Standards are difficult to read and tend to show up as strange numbers on datasheets. This presentation explained the most relevant standards and visualized the test methods associated with each, enabling attendees to map their needs to datasheet specifications and make the proper tag choice for their use cases. This session also outlined the steps manufacturers must take to choose the right RFID system for an array of applications, including tracking parts bins, returnable transport containers, tools, work-in-process, finished goods inventory and more, while building out an infrastructure for tracking and managing other assets.
