In 2017, Labelcraft launched its 100 percent recyclable label release liner —known as Enviroliner—which the company said was an industry first. The company has since expanded capacity and the sustainable label offering.

With the acquisition, RLG has a goal to increase its sustainability-based products. Labelcraft indicated that it chose to partner with RLG because of the two companies’ shared commitment for protecting the environment and desire to expand solutions to a wider variety of customers.

New Bodytracker Employs STMicroelectronics IC

A new wearable device from an engineer who goes by the moniker “Valentyn” leverages an STMicroelectronics IC to enable Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)-based connectivity.

The device is intended for use with VR headsets for full body tracking in use cases such as gaming and creating animations, and is worn on an individual's wrist to help them capture data about movement.

The device monitors rotation in space and the coordinates of a VR headset to calculate joint angles and estimate limb positions.

The STM32WB IC from STMicroelectronics supports the BLE 5 standard as well as Zigbee 802.15.4. The MCU is paired with a TDK InvenSense ICM-42688-V 6-axis MEMS inertial measurement unit, which combines a three-axis gyroscope with a three-axis accelerometer.

Avery Dennison Wins Sustainability Award

Material science and digital identification technology company Avery Dennison won a sustainability award for its Logistics Grade Linerless Solution. The award—in the category of Best New Innovation in Sustainability —was presented by material handling, logistics and supply chain trade association, MHI. The award was presented during the MODEX 2O24 supply chain conference at the Georgia World Congress Center.

Avery Dennison’s linerless labels are an alternative to direct thermal liner products with a direct thermal linerless approach. According to the company, it provides a 49 percent reduction in carbon and a 34 percent reduction in water usage.

The solution supports organizations committed to tackling Scope 3 (indirect) emissions, while advancing their decarbonization and sustainability journey.

Avery Dennison recently released its 2023 Integrated Sustainability and Annual Report in which it identified improved performance and progress against its 2025 and 2030 sustainability goals.
