Pharma packaging for anti-counterfeit
by DAN BRADY, posted 12/30/2004
There are many interesting opportunities related to packaging of Pharma products. Market leaders such as MeadWestvaco, CCL and SATO have already made some progress; FDA has recently signaled their willingness to relax some labeling requirements for select products to accomodate RFID.
Mass serialization is important to the Pharma industry also for tracking illegal diversion and RFID with its inherent track and trace capability is uniquely suited for this. Finally, and especially with Pharma products, it is critical to pay attention to the contents of the package and how it relates, in terms of laws of Physics, with the RFID tags. There are so many packaging styles : blister-packs, bottles, syringes, skin-patches etc. Selection of right technology that works is crucial! Atul Salgaonkar atul@RFIDsolutions.net Message threads
