Seamless Interface to RFID data

SchoolTechnologies, UK need a business card size passive RFID tag and reader to read ID of students who pass through doors in the range 1 to 2 meters. We are concerned about the human body shielding/absorbing the RF illumination. Is there a tested solution ? We would like to work with suppliers/partners in this project.
