Is there a need for RFID installation sub coontractors?

R. Haskins, 08.30.2010 9:30:39 am

I'm self employed as a licensed electrical contractor in California. I specialize in high tech installations such as industrial automation (PLCs), WIFI and network cabling.

I am preparing for the RFID+ exam and my goal is to market myself to RFID consultants, etc as an installer of RFID equipment such as portals, readers, antennas, etc. I want to be the guy that does the real world install, you know, drilling anchors into the concrete floor, running conduit, installing network jacks, mounting antennas.

The equipment and plan would be provided by someone else, I would do the "dirty work". I can also handle the I/O from readers and install and configure Programmable Logic Controllers so the the readers can actually "move things in the real world".

Is there such a role in the RFID industry? How are most installations done? Are they outsourced or handled by in-house technicians? Do you feel there's a need for installation companies to execute the plans of RFID consultants and designers?

Thank you in advance!

Richard
