Supply Chain - Discussion Wall
All,
I learned about RFID about six months ago and have been intrigued with it ever since. However, up until discovering this site, I've considered it only as something I'd use to avoid those slow lines in department and grocery stores. I knew this was a big trend, but I considered it only relevant to those industries.
This site has pointed out some other uses for RFID in military and supply chain management. However, since I work for a major bank, I'm trying to think of a way this would impact banking. Are there ANY applications of this that will affect banking?
Banks are typically very conservative, so the openness (the fact that the signals are accessible practically anywhere) of RFID communication will probably spook them for some time. Plus, there isn't necessarily anything they'd want to track with RFID... at least that I can think of.
Has anyone done anything with banks, or is there any practical application for them? Also, it seems that if we were (for example) to track cash with this, anyone with a reader could tell instantly how much cash a given branch had. There's no way of encrypting or masking these broadcasts?
