RFID and Root Cause Analysis
by Chris Buckthorp, posted 02/07/2007
While it was interesting to read that major companies like K-C are using their RFID data for root cause analysis the real story is about how they are using data from a range of different sources to drive business improvement.
This is not a new thing. Supply Chain Visibility has been delivering this for a number of years, and in the context of K-C the RFID data is just another real-time information source. Companies like Viewlocity extend this capability beyond a single company and can use information from the extended supply chain for this same purpose, but they looks at full end-to-end supply chain performance. In the case of root cause analysis, this extends the capability to deliver an understanding of how activities performed by trading partners have an impact on your business or other dowstream supply chain activites. RFID Middleware solutions have a role, but will they deliver the same features as true multi-enterprise supply chain visibility solutions in order to drive improvements beyond the four walls of a single company?
