Tracking surgical instruments and accessories.
by CORT JACOBY, posted 01/05/2006
I was just watching a programme on TV about when surgery goes wrong. Someone in America is trialling a Bar-code system to track all the instruments and sponges in an Operating theatre - trouble is everything needs to be scanned on handout and on hand-back.
Why not put rfid tags into all the instruments and sponges. Then after surgery, run a scanner over the patients body - anything left inside should show up quickly. Sure would be a lot better than bar-codes. Message threads
