The same benefits your refer to in this article can be achieved at a much lower cost with bar code labels using the concept of "license plates" for pallets. A master bar code label is applied to each pallet for the entire contents of the pallet. The same concept can be applied to an entire load of pallets with receipt of the load in one scan of the bar code. Many companies have been using this for years, particularly in the automotive industry.
