Which companies offer a process for embedding an RFID tag in plastic without first encapsulating the tag?

Dear Johnny,
I have not heard of any businesses that have a special process enabling them to embed a tag in plastic without fist encapsulating it.
Back in 2003, Rafsec (now UPM Raflatac) developed a high-frequency (HF) tag that could withstand the injection-molding process (see Rafsec Offers Embedded RFID Tags). Around the same time, Tagsys began offering a tiny HF tag designed to be embedded in products for authentication (see Tagsys Demos Smallest EPC Tag).
More recently, William Frick began offering a tag that could withstand high heat levels and, thus, the injection-molding process (see William Frick & Co.'s Gen 2 UHF Tags Take the Heat for Manufacturing Apps).
I would suggest that you contact these companies. Perhaps RFID Journal
's readers know of other tags or a process that would allow tags to be embedded without special encapsulation.

RFID Tags Embeded in Plastic
Given the variety of plastic molding processes it is difficult to say if a standard inlay will survive. Their are a number of tags that are designed to survive high temperatures that are typically made using ceramic, PCB, or wire antenna structures. Before moving forward you would need to know the temperature of the molding material, pressure applied, duration in mold, etc. Clearly defined requirements are always the best starting point for tag selection. I hope this helps. Kevin Donahue RFID TagSource

Our experience in RFID Tags embedded in plastic
Our industrial UHF hard tag is made with the technology your are asking about; the parts are injection moulded together around the UHF tag, which is I guess you are looking for. I f you think our expertise in the matter might be useful for you you can find more information on our website www.qid.hu or get in touch directly with me; perecz.peter@qid.hu. I hope I can help you; Peter Perecz, QID Solutions
