How Can I Track Small Birds Via RFID?
I am looking for an active tag with a maximum weight of 10 grams (0.35 ounce) to fit on small flying birds. Do you know of a product that would meet that requirement?
Guard RFID offers the 8-gram (0.28-ounce) AT-1BLF Article Tag that might be suitable for your deployment. The firm also supplies the 5-gram (0.18-ounce) Umbilical Tag, used to track newborns in hospitals.
Zahir Abji, Guard RFID's founder, president and CEO, reports that the company will soon release an even smaller tag, model AT-4. "The read range varies from 100 feet to more than 1,000 feet," he says, "depending on the environment and antenna used."
Active RFID technology providers that offer transponders weighing under 10 grams are invited to post information below.
