Is It Safe to Sit Near an RFID Pad All Day?
I work on a PC that has such a device attached to it, which I sit near all day long. Is this an unsafe practice?
—Ellie (United Kingdom)
The pad is a 13.56 MHz reader, and I'm guessing you need to place a tagged object within 8 to 12 inches in order to read it. If so, the read field is only 8 to 12 inches. Unless you are within that distance, I would say there probably isn't much to worry about.
RFID uses low output levels, and can expose you to less energy than talking on a cell phone. But to be as safe as possible, I would recommend that you keep the pad as far from you as possible, without making your job more difficult. If you still have concerns, you should ask your employer for information about the device's safety.
