Is It Possible to Have an LED on an RFID Tag Glow When a Reader Interrogates It?

If so, who makes such tags?

Urooj,

Farsens offers a battery-free ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) RFID tag with an LED for picking purposes. The LED does not stay on, but rather lights up when an interrogator reads the tag. You can view a video about the tag here. This is the only tag of which I am aware that contains an LED. IDRO also makes a unique tag and reader system that uses tags with a photoelectric sensor. The tag only responds if it receives special optical signals. The system is based on the ISO 18000-63 standard and is designed to eliminate stray reads.

The RFinRFID has modified ISO 15693 tags with LEDs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwBbEPPaHJg) to identify dead zones in our multiplexed antenna configurations. We also observed in EMC measurements that the addition of the LED results in a wide band source of noise. We added LEDs to tags with and without the RFID IC installed. The tag would still function with the LED but read range was degraded.

The people at InfinID (www.infinidtech.com) have developed an active tag with an LED that lights up when receiving a specific command. I've seen it used in large, high dollar wine cellars to allow the users to quickly identify specific wine bottles.

Hello, Bosch Rexroth has this kind of feature (a built-in tricolor led) on industrial tags ( ID 40/MDT2K )
