What Are the Requirements for Using RFID Technology?
Can you please provide information or case studies regarding radio frequency identification? For example, we send our finished goods across different countries and would like to track them. What would be involved?
The right approach would depend upon exactly what you wish to achieve. If you have cases or pallets of product that are put on shipping containers or in trucks, you could use passive UHF RFID on the cases and pallets, then associate the ID numbers in the passive tags with a GPS device on a shipping container. You would need to use GPS or satellite tags to track the container as it travels by ship or truck. This would give you real-time visibility of the cases and pallets until they arrived at the destination (you might want to use an electronic seal to ensure that the container is not opened).
Another option might be to put tags on cases and pallets and then place readers at cross docks, warehouses and other trans-shipment points, as well as at their final destination. When the tagged cases and pallets arrive at each point, the tags would be read and you would receive an update on their location.
