Why Do So Many People Confuse RFID and GPS?

Posted By RFID Journal, 08.29.2016

Our company frequently receives calls from potential customers who think that RFID tags provide real-time GPS tracking. Why is this such a common misunderstanding?

Todd,

Radio frequency identification is still a relatively new technology, and not everyone has spent time reading RFID Journal. We often receive questions from new readers who think RFID can do things it can't. Over time, I believe that more and more people will come to understand what RFID can and can't do, as well as the many applications for which it does and does not deliver value. The technology is not as simple as bar codes, so it will take some time for people to catch on, but it is happening.
