Do Off-the-Shelf RFID Cabinets Exist?
I would like to track tagged assets inside a cabinet and, by scanning them, know what has moved to a different location within that cabinet. Are any solutions commercially available that would allow me to do this?
There are no off-the-shelf cabinets that would do this, but it is possible to use near-field antennas to create zones within a cabinet. The number of reader antennas required would increase as each zone's size decreased. Kathrein RFID offers a smart shelf antenna system that could possibly be used to achieve your goal. I would also recommend that you contact Venture Research, which makes smart cabinets, as it might be able to build something for you, or at least give you an idea of the cost of creating something that would meet your needs.
